I am a Full Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Jadavpur University, Kolkata, with over 32 years of research experience in computer vision, pattern recognition, image and video analysis, computational intelligence, and trustworthy AI. My academic journey has been guided by a sustained commitment to advancing intelligent automated systems and data-driven technologies that generate meaningful societal impact. Over the years, I have authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications in leading international journals and conferences, including: International Journal of Computer Vision (IJCV), International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV), IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing (TGRS), IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (TCSVT), Applied Soft Computing, Information Sciences, Pattern Recognition, etc. My research spans machine learning, big data analytics, bioinformatics, remote sensing, and AI-driven image and video understanding, with a strong emphasis on trustworthy and interpretable artificial intelligence.



Research Projects & International Collaborations



I have led and contributed to numerous national and international funded projects supported by agencies such as DST, MeitY, NSF, and the European Union. My work involves active interdisciplinary collaborations with distinguished researchers across the USA, Europe, and Asia, including: University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Harvard Medical School, Rochester Institute of Technology, Nanyang Technological University, University of Trento. Major collaborative initiatives include: NSF–TIH (DST) Program (since 2022), ProjNet Program with GRSS Western New York Chapter (since 2021), Innovative Cognitive Computing (IC²) Research Center, Thailand (since 2020), ASEAN–India Collaborative Research Program (with KMUTT Thailand and NTU Singapore), MeitY Consortium Project on “Development of Application-Oriented AI Systems”, Indo–US Virtual Networked Center on Distributed Deep Learning, SIU (Norway) & UGC collaborative program with University of Stavanger, Erasmus+ Program (EU-funded consortium coordinated by UPM, Spain), Erasmus Mundus (India for EU I & II), India–Trento Programme for Advanced Research (ITPAR), Indo–Italian S&T Cooperation Framework.



Academic Leadership & Professional Service



In addition to research, I actively contribute to academic leadership and professional service such as: Chair, IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) Kolkata Chapter, Founding Member, IC² Research Center, KMUTT, Associate Editor, Neural Networks, Associate Editor, Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence. I regularly serve on program committees and review panels for premier conferences, including: CVPR, ICLR, ICML, NeurIPS. I have received multiple Outstanding Reviewer Awards, including recognition at BMVC 2024 and 2025. I am currently nominated as the Country/Region Governor (India) for 2026–2027 by the Asia Pacific Neural Network Society. Throughout my career, I have been honored with prestigious fellowships including: LEAP Fellowship (MHRD), CIMPA–UNESCO Fellowship, European Union Erasmus Fellowship. I regularly deliver keynote addresses and invited lectures at reputed international and national forums.
